A system that allows consumers to unilaterally terminate a contract within a certain period of time from the time of the contract. Once a contract is established, it cannot be unilaterally terminated, but since consumers often suffer damage from installment sales and door-to-door sales, this system has been implemented in the United States and other European countries (especially Northern Europe). In the United States, it was established in the Consumer Credit Protection Act of 1968. In Japan, this system was also implemented through the Installment Sales Act (1973, revised law) and the Act on Door-to-Door Sales, etc. (1976).
