...A prehistoric culture that was distributed in the arid regions, mainly in the Great Basin region of western North America. Desert Cultuve is sometimes translated literally as desert culture. It began about 10,000 years ago and continued in some areas until the Europeans arrived. It is believed to have been carried out by the ancestors of the Shoshone and Paiute peoples of the Great Basin region. Many of the ruins are found in caves or rock shelters.
