Water Opal

...Large particles produce a long-wavelength red spectrum, while small particles produce a short-wavelength purple spectrum, but these are mixed together to produce a heptagonal effect. Regardless of their play of colors, precious opals are broadly divided into four types based on their body color: white opal, which is white or milky white and is mainly found in Australia; black opal, which has a dark body color of blue, gray, or almost black; colorless water opal, which is found in Mexico; and fire opal, which has a body color ranging from yellow to orange to red. In terms of formation and occurrence, they are broadly divided into two types: sandstone opal, which is found in sedimentary rocks, and mountain opal, which is found in igneous rocks.
