Glue - Glue
〘Noun〙 A low-quality gelatin made by boiling animal skin, tendons , bones, connective tissue, etc. in water, then concentrating, cooling, and solidifying the solution. Gelatin made from animals such as cattle and horses is called animal glue , and gelatin made from fish is called fish glue . It is a light yellowish brown to dark brown solid. When soaked in water it absorbs water and swells, when heated it becomes a sol, and when cooled it becomes a gel. In addition to being used as an adhesive, it is widely used in photographic emulsions, papermaking, dyeing, etc. *Shosoin documents - March 9, 757 (9th year of Tenpyo Shoho), Toji Temple Office Ryokusho Jobun "617 jin 8 ryo of gelatin"

〘名〙 動物の皮、腱(けん)、骨、結合組織などを水で煮沸し、溶液を濃縮・冷却・凝固してつくった低品質のゼラチン。牛馬などの獣類からのものを獣膠(じゅうこう)、魚類からのものを魚膠(ぎょこう)という。淡黄褐色ないし暗褐色の固形物。水に浸すと吸水膨潤し、加温するとゾルに、冷却するとゲルになる。接着剤に用いられるほか、写真乳剤、製紙、染色などに広く用いられる。※正倉院文書‐天平勝宝九年(757)三月九日・造東寺司緑青定文「膠六百十七斤八両」
