Also called Capernaum. Ancient city on the northwest shore of the Sea of Galilee. Modern-day Kefarnahum (meaning "Village of Nahum"), Israel. Famous as the second hometown of Christ. At the time it was a Roman garrison and a local administrative center. Jesus gained his disciples Peter, Andrew, and Matthew here. Excavations have been underway since 1905.
