A unit of weight used in the Kamakura period. The Ritsuryo system, following the Tang system, defined the weight of 100 grains of millet as 1 shu, 24 shu as 1 ryo, 16 ryo as 1 jin (shojin), and further established a taijin with 3 ryo as tairyo and 1 shojin as dairyo. Daijin was used to measure gold, silver, grain, etc., and shojin for other things. This weighing system became confused over time, and scales with different standards came to be used depending on the region or feudal lord. Even within Todaiji Temple, different scales such as gojin, kokujin, and honjin were used, but it is unclear what standards these were based on.
