…A Stone Age culture typified by the Wilton site in Cape Province, South Africa. It is characterized by the extensive use of small stone tools (microliths) fitted into wooden or bone handles, and corresponds to the Mesolithic cultures of Europe and Asia. Other characteristics include the common use of bone points and awls, and pendants made from ostrich eggshells or slate. It was distributed across the grasslands from South Africa to East Africa, and some ruins were found occupying land in the shade of rocks or on the shores of lakes.
