Isshūkamae - One Sect

〘 noun 〙 A type of punishment imposed only on the monks and nuns in the early modern period. It meant complete expulsion from the sect to which one belonged. It was more severe than the ippa kamae (a group of people who were expelled from one sect but could join another sect of the same sect) . ※Hyakukajo Chousho (Edo) 17 "Subordinates of a group of people who belonged to one sect will have to take off their robes and wear gravel." 〘名〙 近世、僧尼階級に限って科せられた刑罰の一種。その所属の宗門から完全に除籍すること。所属の一派から除籍されても同宗の他派にはいることのできる一派構(いっぱかまえ)より重いもの。※百箇条調書（江戸）一七「一宗構配下は袈裟衣を取砂利え下候」
