El Teniente Copper Mine

A copper mine located 100 km south-southeast of Santiago, the capital of Chile. It is a porphyry copper deposit disseminated in granite porphyry-quartz porphyry associated with igneous activity at the end of the Cretaceous period, with reserves of approximately 1.6 billion tons with a copper content of over 1%, and the ores are chalcopyrite and bornite. It was discovered and developed in 1905, and underground mining using the block caving method produces 40,000 tons of crude ore per day. After dressing, the ore is sent to the nearby Caletones smelter as a concentrate with a copper content of over 33%.

チリの首都サンティアゴの南南東100キロメートルにある銅山。白亜紀末の火成活動に伴う花崗斑岩(かこうはんがん)―石英斑岩中に鉱染した斑岩銅鉱床で、埋蔵鉱量は銅品位1％以上で約16億トン、鉱石は黄銅鉱、斑銅鉱である。1905年に発見、開発され、ブロックケービング法による坑内採鉱で日産4万トンの粗鉱が出される。選鉱によって銅品位33％以上の精鉱として、近くのカレトーネス製錬所に送られる。
