Kuroiso [city] - Kuroiso
An old city in northern Tochigi Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1970. Farming is centered on field crops in the Nasunohara area, with tobacco leaf cultivation and dairy farming also thriving. Forestry is practiced in the mountainous area in the northwest. The center of the city is the village in front of Kuroiso Station on the Tohoku Main Line, which is also served by the Tohoku Shinkansen and National Route 4, and has developed as the gateway to the Nasu Onsen hot spring resort. In January 2005, it merged with Nishinasuno Town and Shiobara Town in Nasu County to become a city, Nasu-Shiobara City. 343.12 km2 . Population: 59,650 (2003).
