Kira-sho

Japanese: 吉良荘 - きらのしょう

A manor located in Hazu County, Mikawa Province. It is identified with the area currently centered on Kira Town, Hazu County, Aichi Prefecture, and extending to Nishio City. The time and circumstances of the establishment of the manor are unknown, but in 878, Princess Mengzi, daughter of Emperor Seiwa, was given 100 cho of abandoned fields in Hazu County as Isshinden, or perhaps this land became a manor. In 1159, Kira Manor was ordered to prepare skirts for the legal attire. In 1177, Emperor Sutoku's Empress Kokamon'in Masashi (daughter of Fujiwara Tadamichi) handed over Kira Manor Saijo to her niece Fujiwara Sanshi, who was appointed as a steward. In 1180, Kira Manor was passed by Kokamon'in to her nephew Kujo Yoshimichi, and after Yoshimichi's death it was passed on to her father Kanezane, and in 1204 it was passed on from Kanezane to his daughter Gishumon'in (the Empress Dowager of Emperor Gotoba), and then to her nephew Kujo Michiie. In 1250, Michiie gave Kira Nishi Manor, a land stewardship, to his son Ichijo Sanetune, and to his grandson Tadaie, and the relationship between Kira Manor and the Kujo family thereafter is unclear. After the Jokyu War, Ashikaga Yoshiuji is believed to have been appointed land steward, and the position was passed on to Yoshiuji's illegitimate son Nagauji, and Nagauji's descendants took the name Kira until the Sengoku period.

三河国幡豆(はず)郡にあった荘園。現愛知県幡豆郡吉良町を中心に，西尾市にかけての地域に比定される。立荘の時期，経緯などは不明だが，878年清和天皇皇女孟子内親王が幡豆郡内の荒廃田100町を一身田(いっしんでん)として与えられており，あるいはこの地が荘園化したものか。1159年には法服装束の裳の調進が〈吉良御荘〉に命じられている。1177年には崇徳天皇中宮の皇嘉門院聖子（藤原忠通娘）から姪の藤原参子に吉良荘西条が譲られており，参子は預所職に任じられた。1180年吉良荘は皇嘉門院から甥九条良通に譲られ，良通の死後はその父兼実に，1204年には兼実から娘の宜秋門院任子（後鳥羽天皇中宮）へ，さらにその甥九条道家に伝えられた。1250年道家は子一条実経に地頭請所の吉良西荘を，孫忠家に吉良西荘を与えており，以後吉良荘と九条家との関係は不明。なお承久の乱後地頭には足利義氏が任じられていたとみられ，地頭職は義氏の庶子長氏へ伝えられて，長氏の子孫は吉良氏を名乗り戦国期に至った。
