Emulsion type adhesive

… Adhesives are classified into several categories according to the method of giving them fluidity during use. The main types are: (1) solution-type adhesives in which rubber or acetyl cellulose is dissolved in a mixture of organic solvents; (2) aqueous-type adhesives in which a solution is dissolved in water, such as the traditional starch paste and glue; (3) emulsion-type adhesives in which a water-insoluble polymer, such as vinyl acetate, is mixed with water in a colloidal form and suspended; (4) liquid reaction-type adhesives that are initially low-molecular-weight or low-molecular-weight polymers and have fluidity, such as many thermosetting resins; and (5) hot-melt-type adhesives that utilize the thermoplasticity of linear polymer copolymers, such as ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers, which are solid at room temperature but soften at 80-110°C and become fluid enough for bonding when heated to 160-180°C. Technological progress in this field is currently remarkable. …
