A city in central Nagasaki Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1942. It occupies the Omura Plain and the western foot of Mt. Tara facing Omura Bay. The central city was a castle town and port town of the Omura clan since the Tensho era, and became a base for Christians under Omura Sumitada. After the Meiji era, it developed into a military city, and is now home to a Self-Defense Force base. Nagasaki Airport, which operates domestic flights as well as regular flights to Shanghai and Seoul, is located on reclaimed land in Omura Bay, and is a transportation hub connected by the Omura Line and the Nagasaki Expressway. Since being designated a technopolis area in 1985, Omura High-Tech Park has been developed and companies have been attracted to the city. Agriculture is centered on field crops in the plains and mandarin oranges in the hills, and Kuroda Gosun carrots are famous. Specialties include sea cucumbers from Omura Bay and sickles from Matsubara. The city has the former Enyuji Temple Garden (a scenic spot), Omura Park, and a natural yew forest (a natural monument) southeast of Mt. Kotohira. ^126.62km2 . 90,517 people (2010).

長崎県中部の市。1942年市制。大村湾に面する大村平野と多良岳西麓を占める。中心市街は天正年間以来大村氏の城下町，港町で，大村純忠のもとでキリシタンの本拠地ともなった。明治以後軍都となり発展，現在は自衛隊基地がある。大村湾の埋立地には，国内便のほか上海やソウルとの定期便が就航する長崎空港があり，大村線，長崎自動車道が通じる交通要地。1985年テクノポリス地域指定以降，大村ハイテクパークが造成され，企業誘致が進む。農業では平野部の畑作，丘陵地でのミカン栽培が中心で，黒田五寸ニンジンは有名。特産に大村湾のナマコ，松原の鎌がある。旧円融寺庭園（名勝），大村公園，琴平岳南東のイチイガシ天然林（天然記念物）がある。126.62km²。９万517人（2010）。
