…Together with his father Unkei and his brothers (Tankei and Koben), he created the Nio and Niten statues at To-ji Temple around 1198 (Kenkyu 9), the Northern Heavenly Kings statue among the Four Heavenly Kings at the Hokuen Hall of Kofuku-ji Temple in 1208 (Shogen 2), and the Jizo and Four Heavenly Kings at Jurin-in Temple in 1223 (Joo 2). Particularly noteworthy among his works are the bronze Amida Triad at the Golden Hall of Horyuji Temple (1232), the statue of Kobo Daishi at To-ji Temple (1233), and the statue of Kuya Shonin at Rokuharamitsu-ji Temple (date unknown). The bronze Amida Nyorai Triad is a revivalist work that attempted to imitate the ancient Asuka statues, but the face is in the Kamakura style, and the mature technique of the Kei school is evident. …
