Cape Echizen

Japanese: 越前岬 - えちぜんみさき
Cape Echizen

A cape located in the eastern end of Wakasa Bay in the mid-west of Fukui Prefecture. It is a small protrusion where the Nyu Mountains join the sea, and the strata of andesite, conglomerate and tuff form a cliff of about 100 meters, with a lighthouse standing on the terrace above it. There are many strange rocks and caves in the vicinity, such as Kochomon Gate and Tamagawa Cave Kannon, and it is one of the tourist centers of Echizen Kaga Kaigan Quasi-National Park. Regular buses run from JR Fukui Station and Takefu Station. A hot spring was dug in Tamagawa to the south in 1965, and it is expected to become a tourist base. In addition, the Tsushima Warm Current, which flows straight from the Tango Peninsula, hits this area and creates a clockwise branch into Wakasa Bay. As a result, the winters are warm and the area is known for its early-blooming daffodils (which flower from late December to January), which are a local specialty along with Echizen crabs (fishing season is from mid-November to the end of January).
