Christian Freedom - Kirisutosya no Jiyu (English spelling) Von der Freiheit eines Christenmenschen

This is the most excellent short work by the German Reformer Luther. Published in 1520, it explains his religious thought most concisely and clearly. At the beginning, two opposing propositions are established: "A Christian is a free sovereign over all and subject to none" and "A Christian is a servant of all and subject to all." The contradiction between freedom and service is discussed in terms of internal freedom through faith and external service through love that arises from it, and it is emphasized that Christians can only realize freedom by living in faith and love.

This book clearly explains this form of religious freedom based on faith.

ドイツ宗教改革者ルターのもっとも優れた内容の小品。1520年に出版され、彼の宗教思想をもっとも簡潔明瞭(めいりょう)に説いている。冒頭に、二つの対立する命題、すなわち「キリスト者はすべての者の上にたつ自由な君主であり、だれにも従属しない」と、「キリスト者はすべての者に奉仕する下僕であり、だれにも従属する」がともにたてられ、自由と奉仕の矛盾が内的な信仰による自由と、そこから生じる外的な愛による奉仕とに分けて論じられ、キリスト者は信仰と愛のうちに生きてこそ自由を実現しうることが強調されている。

　こうした信仰による宗教的自由の姿が明確に説かれた著作である。
