This is the most excellent short work by the German Reformer Luther. Published in 1520, it explains his religious thought most concisely and clearly. At the beginning, two opposing propositions are established: "A Christian is a free sovereign over all and subject to none" and "A Christian is a servant of all and subject to all." The contradiction between freedom and service is discussed in terms of internal freedom through faith and external service through love that arises from it, and it is emphasized that Christians can only realize freedom by living in faith and love. This book clearly explains this form of religious freedom based on faith.
