…(2) Japan It is said that wine brewing in Japan began around 1870-71 (Meiji 3-4) when Yamada Yukyo tried wine in Kofu, Yamanashi Prefecture, but there is no definitive proof. However, around 1874, small-scale wine brewing began in Katsunuma and the surrounding areas, and in 1877, the Dai-Nihon Yamanashi Grape Wine Company (commonly known as Iwaimura Grape Wine Company) was established, sending two employees to study in France, and full-scale wine production began. At the same time, as part of its policy to promote industry and commerce, the Meiji government began to work on the large-scale cultivation of wine grapes, subsidizing the Yamanashi Prefectural Industrial Research Institute's attached wine brewery, while also establishing wineries at the Hokkaido Development Agency's Sapporo government garden and the government-run Banshu vineyard, and demonstrating to the public a model facility for integrated cultivation and brewing, promoting the wine business. …

…(2)日本 日本におけるブドウ酒醸造は,1870‐71年(明治3‐4)ころ,山梨県甲府における山田宥教の試醸を嚆矢(こうし)とする説が流布されているが,確証はない。しかし,74年前後から小規模な醸造が勝沼およびその周辺地区で始まり,77年には大日本山梨葡萄酒会社(通称,祝村葡萄酒会社)が設立され,社員2名をフランスに留学させ,本格的なブドウ酒の生産が行われるようになった。これと並行して,明治政府は殖産興業政策の一環として,大規模な醸造用ブドウの栽培にとり組み,山梨県勧業試験所付属葡萄酒醸造所を助成する一方,開拓使札幌官園や官営播州葡萄園に醸造場を併設し,栽培・醸造一貫の模範施設を民間に示して,ブドウ酒事業の振興をはかった。…
