...As sheet erosion progresses, small undulations and grooves form, and as runoff accelerates, the erosion expands (crack erosion, trickle erosion). When erosion progresses further and the soil is dug deep, forming a ravine, this is called canyon erosion (crevice erosion). Water erosion caused by melting snow or ice is called thaw erosion.
