Adenophora triphylla var. japonica (English name: Adenophora triphylla)

Japanese: ツリガネニンジン(釣鐘人参) - ツリガネニンジン(英語表記)Adenophora triphylla var. japonica
Adenophora triphylla var. japonica (English name: Adenophora triphylla)
A perennial plant of the Campanulaceae family. It is found in almost all of the Japanese archipelago, the southern Kuril Islands, and Sakhalin. It is commonly found in the mountains and fields of various places. The roots are white and thick, and the stems reach a height of 40 to 100 cm. The plant is morphologically variable, with the basal leaves being circular-cordate, while the stem leaves are oblong, ovate, linear lanceolate, and other shapes. The shape of the sawtooth is also variable, and the leaf arrangement is usually in whorls of 3 to 4 leaves, but it can also vary greatly depending on the plant, with alternate and opposite arrangements. In autumn, it produces a panicle-shaped inflorescence and produces pale blue-purple, bell-shaped flowers about 2 cm long that hang downward. In some areas, it is called Totoki, and the young leaves have been eaten since ancient times, and the roots have been dried for medicinal purposes. The parent species of this species is called Saiyoshajin and is found in southern Kyushu, through the Ryukyu Islands, and up to Taiwan and southern China. The corolla is urn-shaped with a tapered tip, and is just under 1 cm long.
