[Physicochemical indices]
SS (suspended solids) is expressed as the amount of residue left behind when filtered through a filter paper with a pore size of approximately 1 μm, and determines the appearance of the water. Even clean rivers contain about 25 ppm, and in lakes and ponds, transparency is about 1 m when SS is 1 ppm.
