Exsuruge Domine

In Rome, Pope Leo X issued a bull (Exsulge Domine) in June 1520, forcing Luther, who had now been convicted of heresy, to recant his teachings by threatening excommunication. With anti-Roman sentiment growing throughout Germany, and facing various obstacles, it was not until autumn that the bull reached Luther.
