Sub-group

Japanese: 下位集団 - かいしゅうだん（英語表記）sub-group

When a group, such as a class, is divided into several smaller groups (such as squads or groups), this refers to the relationship between these smaller groups and the higher-level group. These smaller groups may be created institutionally, such as groups within a class, or they may arise spontaneously, such as several friendly groups within a class. They are not merely components of the higher-level group, but have their own unique patterns of behavior (subcultures), and to that extent they have a dynamic relationship with the overall culture.
