...ABS resin is made by polymerizing acrylonitrile, butadiene, and styrene, and is named after the initials of each monomer. It was developed to improve the impact resistance of polystyrene, and was initially made by blending acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR) with copolymer resin of acrylonitrile and styrene (AS resin). Recently, ABS resin made by graft polymerizing acrylonitrile and styrene with NBR, and blends of graft resin and AS resin have also been produced. ABS resin has excellent impact resistance because it contains rubber components (see table), and it has the advantages of being easy to color and has vivid colors, being highly rigid, being easily moldable, and being able to mold large items without distortion. …アクリロニトリル，ブタジエン，スチレンを重合させてつくられる樹脂で，それぞれのモノマーの頭文字をとってABS樹脂と呼ばれる。ポリスチレンの耐衝撃性を改善するために開発された樹脂であり，当初，アクリロニトリルとスチレンの共重合樹脂(AS樹脂)にアクリロニトリル･ブタジエンゴム(NBR)をブレンドしてつくられたが，最近では，NBRにアクリロニトリル，スチレンをグラフト重合したABS樹脂とか，そのグラフト樹脂とAS樹脂とのブレンド樹脂も製造されている。ABS樹脂は，樹脂内にゴム成分を含むため耐衝撃性にすぐれ(表参照)，また着色が容易でかつ色が鮮やかなこと，剛性が高いこと，成形性がよく，大型成形品がひずみなくできるなどのメリットがあるため，自動車用内装部品や，テレビ，ポータブルラジオ，カセットデッキ，洗濯機，掃除機などの家電製品の外装，ビデオカセットケースなど，美観を要求されるところによく用いられる。…
