This type of book is a thin-print book with 17 to 18 lines per page and includes several illustrations, so it is also called an illustrated thin-print book or an illustrated Joruri book. The main focus was on getting the reader to read the plot rather than the musical melody, but during the Enpo period (1673-81), books without illustrations and with bold melody began to be published. ...

…1634年(寛永11)4月刊の《はなや》に〈天下無双薩摩太夫以正本開之〉と記すものが最も古く，以来享保(1730年ごろ)まで刊行されている。この種のものは，1ページが17～18行の細字本で数葉の挿絵が入っているので，絵入細字本，絵入浄瑠璃本ともいわれる。音曲上の節付よりも筋を読ませることが主眼であったが，延宝期(1673‐81)には挿絵がなく，太字で節付の入ったものが刊行されるようになった。…
