Andong Protectorate

Japanese:
Andong Protectorate

One of the six protectorates of the Tang Dynasty in China. After the Tang Dynasty destroyed Goguryeo in 668, they established prefectures in the area and the Andong Protectorate in Pyongyang to govern it. However, due to the unification movement of Silla, its seat was moved west to present-day Liaoyang in 676, and to the vicinity of Fushun the following year. As a result of the Khitan Rebellion in 696, it was temporarily abolished in 698. After the rebellion was put down and it was restored in 705, its role was reduced as it came under the jurisdiction of the Jiedushi, and its seat was moved further west. During the An Lushan Rebellion (755-763), it was isolated in enemy territory and abolished after 758.
