〘 noun 〙 In the Edo period, a long search was made by relatives or town/village officials for a fugitive criminal or suspect . This was done when the suspect could not be found within a six-month period of searching. Formally, it was an indefinite search order, but in reality, it was practically an exemption from the duty to investigate. Eitazune. ※Political talk (around 1727) 1 "In recent years, the missing kind has been omitted, and in the larger case, it has become a permanent search."

〘名〙 江戸時代、逃走した犯人または嫌疑者を、親類・町村役人に長く捜索させること。前後六か月にわたる日限尋(ひぎりたずね)の期間内に発見できないときに行なわれたもので、形式上は無期限の捜索命令であるが、実際には捜査義務を免除されたに等しい結果となった。えいたずね。※政談（1727頃）一「欠落の類、近年は〈略〉、大形は永尋に成る」
