An agreement concluded in July 1963 in Yaoundé, the capital of Cameroon, between six EEC (European Economic Community) member countries and 18 African countries belonging to the French Union. Following the independence of African countries, the agreement aimed to provide economic assistance such as loans and grants to these countries, as well as to establish preferential relations such as the abolition of tariffs and import restrictions on primary products, in order to expand trade and promote mutual benefits. The first Yaoundé Agreement came into force in June 1964 with a five-year term, and was later renewed in July 1969 as the second Yaoundé Agreement, which expired in January 1975. However, its contents were later expanded and succeeded by the Lomé Agreement, which was concluded in February 1975 between the nine expanded EC (European Community) countries to which the UK had joined, and the 46 ACP (African, Caribbean and Pacific) countries, including the British Commonwealth countries. しかしその内容は、75年2月にイギリスの加盟した拡大EC(ヨーロッパ共同体)9か国とイギリス連邦諸国を加えたACP(African, Caribbean and Pacificアフリカ、カリブ海および太平洋)諸国46か国との間に結ばれたロメ協定へ発展的に継承された。
