A former town in Arida County, central Wakayama Prefecture. Occupying the mountainous area in the middle reaches of the Arida River, it is a major producer of mandarin oranges. The central settlement developed as a market town at the mouth of the valley, and lumber is also produced there, being close to the forested area. In January 2006, it merged with Kibi Town and Shimizu Town in Arida County to become Aridagawa Town, Arida County. Area: 119.44 km2 . Population: 9,750 (2003).
