Umbrian language - Umbriano (English spelling)
An extinct language belonging to the Italic branch of the Indo-European language family. It was spoken in the Umbria region of central Italy until the beginning of the Christian era, but was later replaced by Latin. The main document is a bronze tablet excavated from Iguvium (near Gubbio in Italy), which is a religious code written around 400-90 BC, and contains parts written in a unique script derived from the Etruscan alphabet and parts written in Roman letters. It is closely related to Oscan, and is collectively known as the Oscan-Umbrian languages, which are contrasted with Latin.
