Agano River Line - Aganogawarain

...Between Yamashina and Umashita, the river cuts a horizontal valley, incises and meanders, and on both sides there are several river terraces, showing the characteristics of an antecedent flow path. The 20km stretch from the prefectural border to Sakuka Onsen in Gosen City, with its green tuff rock face and magnificent gorge, is called the Agano River Line, and was designated as Niigata Prefectural Natural Park in 1969. Lake Tsugawa was created by the Agekawa Dam, built in 1962, and has been used as a boat race venue since the Niigata National Sports Festival in 1964.
