Japanese: 雲谷等益 - うんこくとうえき

1591-1644 A painter from the early Edo period.
Born in 1581. The second son of Unkoku Togao. He moved with his father from Aki (Hiroshima Prefecture) to Hagi, Nagato (Yamaguchi Prefecture) and served the Mori family. After his brother Toya died young, he took over in 1521 and worked to maintain the Unkoku school. He was called the 4th Sesshu. He died on February 14, 1628. He was 54 years old. His given name was Motonao. His other pen name was Yuun. His works include "Rooftop Landscape Screen".

天正(てんしょう)19年生まれ。雲谷等顔の次男。父とともに安芸(あき)(広島県)から長門(ながと)(山口県)萩(はぎ)にうつり,毛利家につかえる。兄等屋の早世後,元和(げんな)4年跡目をつぎ雲谷派の維持につとめる。雪舟4代を称した。寛永21年2月14日死去。54歳。名は元直。別号に友雲。作品に「楼閣山水図屏風(びょうぶ)」など。
