Kaga dyeing
〘Noun〙① A method of dyeing Kaga silk. Also, the dyed products. Using Umedani shibu (plum tannins) extracted from the bark of plum trees, red-orange is dyed multiple times to make black. There are plain dyes and pattern dyes (Kaga Yuzen ) with maples on the Tatsuta River, snow, moon, and flowers. Used for men's and women's haori and clothing. Kaga Kenbo. *Yamagami Soujiki (1588-90) "Departing from the tea ceremony (abbreviated ) Kamiko sleeve openings, Kaga dye underneath." ② Name of dyeing method. A red with a yellowish tint. *Haiku poem Takatsukuba (1638) 3 "The village of Uji, where there are many types of tea, Kaga dye and Edo dye, under the bridge ( Rian )"

〘名〙① 加賀絹を染める染め方。また、その染め物。梅の木の皮からとる梅谷渋(しぶ)を用い、赤橙色を何度も染めて黒い色にする。無地染めと、立田川に楓(かえで)、雪月花などの模様染め(加賀友禅)とがある。男女の羽織、衣服などに用いる。加賀兼法(かがけんぼう)。※山上宗二記(1588‐90)「茶湯之出立〈略〉袖口かみこ、下に加賀染」② 染色の名。赤に黄を帯びた色。※俳諧・鷹筑波(1638)三「茶にも色々ある宇治の里 加賀染(ゾメ)や江戸染すすぐ橋の下〈利安〉」
