Nganasan

Indigenous people of the Taimyr Peninsula, which juts out into the Arctic Ocean in central Siberia. They call themselves "nya", meaning "comrades". "Ganasan" comes from the word nganasa, meaning "human". In ancient times they were called "Tabgy" or "Samoyedic Tabgy". Population: about 1000. Their language belongs to the Samodi branch of the Uralic language family. They are particularly closely related in language and culture to the Nenets and Enets peoples to the west, but they are also greatly influenced by the Evenki people to the south, and the Dolgan and Yakut peoples to the southeast and east. They live by large-scale reindeer herding, and also fish and hunt. During the Soviet era, they were organized into several sovkhoz.

シベリアの中部，北極海に突き出たタイムイル半島の先住民族。自称は「ニャ」で「仲間」の意。「ガナサン」は「人間」 nganasaとういう言葉に由来する。古くは「タブギー」「サモエード・タブギー」と呼ばれた。人口約 1000。言語はウラル語族のサモディ語派に属する。西に隣接するネネツ族，エネツ族とは，言語や文化の上で特に密接なかかわりをもつが，南のエベンキ族，南東から東に接するドルガン族，ヤクート族からの影響も大きい。生業はトナカイの大規模な牧畜で，漁労，狩猟も行われる。ソ連時代にはいくつかのソフホーズに組織されていた。
