When revolutionary political parties and their leaders ignore the distinction between political parties and trade unions and promote their activities by adopting party policies as the policies of union organization, such unions are called red trade unions, and the sectarian trade union ideology that affirms such a way of union leadership is called "red trade unionism." In the 1920s, unions affiliated with Profintern (Red Trade Union International), which advocated support for Comintern as its platform, had a strong inclination toward red trade unions, and in particular, the ideology of red trade unionism was clearly at work behind the calls on left-wing opponents within reformist unions to leave the unions from 1928 to the early 1930s.
