〘 noun 〙 In the Edo period, a document was sent to the buyer as evidence when land was sold. Many documents were signed only by the seller, but depending on the property, many were signed by town or village officials or witnesses and clearly stated that the document would not expire for this particular sale. 〘名〙 江戸時代、土地などを売ったときにその証拠として買い主に出す書状。売り主だけが署名する証文が多いが、物件によっては町村役人や証人がこれに連署し、この売買に限って失効しない旨を明記したものが多い。売買証文。売券。※言経卿記‐天正一六年（1588）一二月二二日「家買得了。〈略〉売渡状如レ此」
