The most important Tamba Sarugaku troupes were Yada Sarugaku, based in what is now Kameoka, Kyoto Prefecture, Umewaka Sarugaku in Oshima, Ayabe City, and Hiyoshi Sarugaku, whose base is unknown. Yada Sarugaku is an old troupe that has been called the honza since the Kamakura period, and it made regular appearances at the Shussui-e ceremony at Hossho-ji Temple in Kyoto, the Mishiro Festival at Kamo Shrine, and the rice planting ritual at Sumiyoshi Shrine, along with the Enami-za (Niiza) and Hojoji-za troupes in Settsu.
