A town in central South Australia, about 160 km northwest of Port Augusta. It is on the southeastern edge of the Great Victoria Desert and is surrounded by many dry lakes. It was built in 1947 as a joint missile launch test site between the UK and Australia. There is also a US space satellite tracking station nearby. Population 1805 (1986).
