Umeda Kagetsu Theater

Japanese: うめだ花月劇場 - うめだかげつげきじょう
Umeda Kagetsu Theater

...means a permanent yose (a vaudeville hall). It is different from a rental hall (kashiseki) or the rental halls of the modern so-called "hall rakugo". In both Edo and Kamigata, it was established around 1804 (Bunka 1). Currently, the month is divided into three parts, with performances for 10 days, with the upper part (kamiseki), the middle part (nakaseki), and the lower part (shimoseki), but until the early Taisho period, each part was for 15 days. There were 240 yose in Tokyo during the Meiji and Taisho periods, but by the early Showa period, this number had fallen to 114. As of 1990, there are only a few yose left in Kamigata, such as Ueno Suzumoto Engeijo, Shinjuku Suehirotei, Ikebukuro Engeijo, and Asakusa Engei Hall in Tokyo, and Namba Grand Kagetsu.
