〘名〙軍陣に際して乗馬につける防御用の武具。額から鼻面(はなづら)にかけておおう馬面(ばめん)と、胸から左右の平頸(ひらくび)にかけての胸甲(むなよろい)、背通りから左右の琵琶股(びわもも)にかけての尻甲(しりよろい)からなる。また、特に馬面を除いた胸甲と尻甲の部分をいうこともある。※令義解（833）軍防「具装者。馬甲也」※上杉家文書‐（年未詳）（室町）一〇月七日・将軍家足利義晴御内書「馬面・馬鎧之事被_レ仰候処到来候畢」
