Utsunomiya Kagetsuna

Japanese: 宇都宮景綱 - うつのみやかげつな

1235-1298 A military commander and poet of the Kamakura period.
Born in the first year of the Katei era. Son of Utsunomiya Yasutsuna. Lord of Utsunomiya Castle in Shimotsuke (Tochigi Prefecture). Served as a personal attendant to the 6th Shogun, Prince Munetaka. After serving as a member of the Hikitsukeshu, he became a member of the Hyojoshu in Bun'ei 10. In the sixth year of the Koan era, he established the Utsunomiya Family Code. He excelled in waka poetry and kemari. He passed away on May 1, in the sixth year of the Einin era. He was 64 years old. He was commonly known as Shiro. His posthumous Buddhist name was Renyu. His family anthology is the "Sami Renyushu."

嘉禎(かてい)元年生まれ。宇都宮泰綱の子。下野(しもつけ)(栃木県)宇都宮城主。6代将軍宗尊(むねたか)親王の近侍役をつとめる。引付衆をへて,文永10年評定衆となる。弘安(こうあん)6年宇都宮家式条を制定。和歌,蹴鞠(けまり)にすぐれていた。永仁(えいにん)6年5月1日死去。64歳。通称は四郎。法名は蓮愉(れんゆ)。家集に「沙弥蓮愉集」。
