Goushin

Japanese: 豪信 - ごうしん

A painter active from the end of the Kamakura period to the Nanboku-cho period. He was the fifth generation grandson of Fujiwara Takanobu and the son of Naritsugu. His family was famous for portraits, and Goshin was the last of them. His National Treasure, "Portrait of Emperor Hanazono" (Chofukuji Temple), is a portrait of the emperor at the age of 42 in 1338. As the emperor himself inscribed the portrait, "I am of poor character, so this was drawn by the son of the priest Goshin Naritsugu," it is a masterpiece of portraits that beautifully captures the emperor's facial expression using fine lines.

鎌倉時代末期から南北朝時代に活躍した画家。藤原隆信の5代の孫で，為信の子。家系は似絵 (にせえ) の名家で豪信はその最後を飾った。彼の筆に成る国宝『花園天皇像』 (長福寺) は，暦応1 (1338) 年天皇 42歳の姿を写したもの。天皇みずから「予の陋質，法印豪信故為信卿息の図す所なり」と銘を入れたように，細線を駆使してみごとにその表情をとらえた似絵の代表作。
