...There are three types of rosin, depending on how it is extracted: (1) what is left over after steaming the resin to remove the turpentine (gum rosin), (2) what is obtained by crushing the roots, extracting them with a solvent, and then steaming the extract to remove the turpentine (wood rosin), and (3) what is obtained as a by-product when pine is used to make pulp, the raw material for paper, using the kraft process (tall rosin).
