Uchiyama Basin

The basin is located in the lower reaches of the Oda River and Nakayama River, tributaries of the northern Hiji River in western Ehime Prefecture. Alluvial plateaus are widely distributed in the surrounding area, and those in Uchiko Town in particular were formed by the struggle to capture the Oda River. Since the feudal era, it has flourished as a distribution center for goods from the surrounding area, with specialty products such as wood wax in Uchiko and Japanese paper in Ikazaki.

愛媛県西部、肱(ひじ)川北部の支流小田川、中山川の下流域の盆地。周辺には洪積台地が広く分布し、とくに内子(うちこ)町のそれは小田川の河川争奪によって形成されたものである。藩政時代から近隣の物資の集散地として栄え、特産物として内子の木蝋(もくろう)、五十崎(いかざき)の和紙生産がある。
