Nobunaga in his younger days

Japanese: 若き日の信長 - わかきひののぶなが

A play in three acts and four scenes. Written by Daibutsu Jiro. First performed at the Tokyo Kabukiza in October 1952. The main cast includes Ichikawa Ebizo IX (later Ichikawa Danjūrō XI) as Oda Nobunaga, Onoe Matsuroku II as Hirate Nakatsukasa, Onoe Baiko VII as Yayoi, and Ichikawa Sadanji III as Kinoshita Tōkichirō. Even though it is the third anniversary of his father's death, Nobunaga is playing with the village children on a hill near the temple, eating persimmons. Yayoi, the daughter of Yamaguchi Samanosuke, who is a hostage of the Oda clan, secretly adores Nobunaga, but overhears a secret conversation between Imagawa's spy Kakuen and Hayashi Mimasaka no Kami, who is a confidant for the Imagawa clan.

戯曲。3幕4場。大仏次郎作。1952年10月東京歌舞伎座初演。おもな配役は，織田信長を9世市川海老蔵(のちの11世市川団十郎)，平手中務を2世尾上松緑，弥生を7世尾上梅幸，木下藤吉郎を3世市川左団次ほか。信長は父の三回忌法要の日だというのに寺に近い丘の上で村の子供らと柿を食べたりして遊んでいる。織田家の人質となっている山口左馬之助の娘弥生はそんな信長をひそかに慕っているが，今川の間者覚円と今川方に内通している林美作守の密談を立聞きする。
