A woman who is said to have laid the foundations of Kabuki. Her birth and death years and biography are unclear, but according to popular belief, she organized a troupe calling herself a shrine maiden of Izumo Taisha Shrine, toured the country performing Nembutsu dances, and gave a performance in Kyoto in 1603. This became known as Okuni Kabuki and became very popular. Eventually, courtesans from all over the country followed her example, ushering in the heyday of female Kabuki. → Related topics Kabuki|Nagoya Sansan Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
