...In medieval soul rituals, they were generally referred to as Hokkai, Sankai Banrei, Muen Iserei, etc., so that individual unrelated spirits would not be left out. In terms of folk terms, today, in southern Kyushu and the southern islands, they are called Fukejoro (outer spirit), Ukejoro (floating spirit), Hokadon (outer hall), Tomodon (offering hall), etc., along the Kinokawa River, they are called Okyakubotoke, in Shiso District, Hyōgo Prefecture, Shourosan (spirit god), in Kamo District, Gifu Prefecture, All Spirits God, and in Iki, Sangebange (three worlds all spirits). Unrelated Buddhas are usually spirits with no connection to the family, but even the spirits of people related to the family are sometimes considered unrelated Buddhas. ...
