A folk dance and Kabuki dance in which a hat decorated with artificial flowers is used for the harvest. In the Hanagasa Dance of Kuta, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City, a lantern is placed on a hexagonal stand, decorated with elaborate artificial flowers, and danced to the accompaniment of drums and Furyu songs, held above the head or in front of the chest (Furyu Dance). In the Hanagasa Dance of Chiyoda-machi, Yamagata County, Hiroshima Prefecture and Yatsushiro, Kumage-machi, Kumage County, Yamaguchi Prefecture, many dancers wearing long, drooping flower hats dance to the accompaniment of flutes, gongs, drums (in Chiyoda-machi, the dancers play the drums themselves) and Furyu songs, swaying their flower hats. 民俗舞踊,歌舞伎舞踊で,採物(とりもの)に造花の飾りをつけた笠をつかう踊り。京都市左京区久多の花笠踊は,六角の台に行灯をのせ,まわりを精巧な造花で飾ったものを,頭上や胸前に持ち,太鼓と風流(ふりゆう)歌に合わせて踊る(風流踊)。広島県山県(やまがた)郡千代田町や山口県熊毛郡熊毛町八代の花笠踊は,周囲に長くしだれた花笠をかぶった大勢の踊り手が,笛・鉦(かね)・太鼓(千代田町ではみずから打つ)と風流歌に合わせて,花笠を揺らしながら踊る。
