A former town in Nakagami County, Okinawa Prefecture, including the central east coast of Okinawa Island, most of the Yokatsu (Katsuren) Peninsula, and outlying islands. Sugarcane and vegetables are cultivated, pigs are raised, and fishing is also practiced. The Katsuren Castle ruins (historic site, World Heritage Site) and the naval port of White Beach are located here. In April 2005, Uruma merged with Ishikawa City, Gushikawa City, and Yonashiro Town in Nakagami County to become a city. Area: 13.17 km2 . Population: 14,345 (2003).
