Wardun - Wardun

Wardun - Wardun

...Early society was already at the stage of a clearly defined class society, consisting of the king and nobility who were large landowners, and a subordinate peasant class, as well as a considerable number of slaves, but on the other hand it still retained a clan-based character in which blood revenge, an "eye for an eye," was the basis of social justice. The religion was also polytheistic, with nature worship, common to other Germanic tribes, and the objects of worship were various gods such as Wardun (the chief god, god of war, and god of commerce), Zunor (the god of thunder), and Frigg (the god of marriage and family). Their oldest long epic poem, Beowulf, which is said to have been codified around the 8th century, well expresses the early, heroic national spirit, which was excellent in its sense of reality, melancholy, solemn, and resigned to its fate.
