Ueno-juku

...A town in Aki County, central Mie Prefecture. Population 16,548 (1995). Bordering Suzuka City to the north and Tsu City to the south, it faces Ise Bay to the east. The northwest is a hilly area about 50m above sea level, with settlements and cultivated land scattered in the valleys, and the southeast is a plain along the coast of Ise Bay, with the Ise Railway Line, Kintetsu Nagoya Line, and National Route 23 running parallel to it. Ueno, the central settlement, developed as a post town as pilgrimages to Ise Shrine became more popular during the Muromachi period, and in the Edo period, it was home to a headquarters, wholesaler, and official courier for the Kishu Domain. The main industries are agriculture and fishing, and the main agricultural products are rice, vegetables, and fruit, with Kawage mandarin oranges and Kuroda cabbage being particularly famous.
